Training Workshop for Cypriot Judges on EU Competition Law

A two-day Training Workshop for Cypriot Judicial Officials on European Union Competition Law has been successfully completed on Friday October 27, 2017.

The Training Workshop on “The Economics of EU Competition Law”, organized by the European Public Law Organization (EPLO), was held from October 26 to 27, 2017, in Nicosia at the premises of the Supreme Court of Cyprus. The event was organized in close cooperation with the Supreme Court.

The Workshop was opened by welcome remarks from Justice Myron Nicolatos, President of the Supreme Court, Ms. Elena Zachariadou, Attorney of the Republic and Prof. Panayotis Glavinis, Scientific Coordinator of the Project.

The Workshop provided in depth and practical training to 23 Cypriot Judges and Prosecutors on the key economic issues underlying EU Competition Law, including fundamental economic concepts of Competition Law, abuse of dominant position, excessive, discriminatory and predatory pricing and mergers and acquisitions. The workshop was followed by Judicial Officials from the Supreme Court, the Administrative Court and the Law Office of the Republic.

This event is part of the 14-month project “Advanced Training of National Judges and Prosecutors from Bulgaria, Cyprus and Greece on Enforcement of EU Competition Law “, funded by the European Commission Directorate-General for Competition, and implemented by the EPLO in partnership with the Center for Continuing Education at the Law Faculty of Sofia University, the Hellenic Council of State, the Hellenic Competition Commission, the Commission for the Protection of Competition of Cyprus, the Institute of Studies in Competition Law and Policy (IMEDIPA), and the Human Resource Development and Innovation Center.
